In short, Elaine, the answer is unequivocally YES. Contrary to popular opinion, riding the back of the tandem is not a walk in the park - I have to match the effort of the captain, or I will definitely hear about it. Of course, I could always put up the HR stats from one of the tandem TTs if you still have any question ... ;-)

Funny, my stats from the ride are a little different. The HR avg is the same (but my max is 10bpm lower) and I spent the majority of the ride in zone 3 (TEM) vs. 3/4/5 fairly even. Huh, that seems odd :) Note though there was no time spent in zone LOF (loafing).

Waaaaaaaah! I love it! Thanks Cath! Now to get that Tandem....
Nice to know! Here was our discussion at the dinner table last night.
Him: Oh yeah, he's strong...he rides a tandem a good portion of the year with blah, blah, blah.
Me: A tandem? Wow...we should think about getting one of those.
Him: Yeah, we really should
Me: You know, it's funny that we waited SO IMPATIENTLY for that tandem to arrive and we've been on it ONCE in the last 6+ months since we got it.
Him: I know honey, but we have all of these individual goals and we're busy training. The tandem doesn't have an expiration date on it, like eggs do.
Me: You know, we could probably get a good workout on it if we took it out after work sometimes!!!
Him: You're right.
Seriously, we have done one ride on it! So sad. She's lonely!
